Queue your favourite playlist, grab a window-seat, and hit the highway for this 7-day road trip on one of South Africa’s most iconic routes. Wind your way along the lush Indian Ocean coastline, stopping at sublime beaches, prehistoric caves, vibrant Xhosa townships, world-class vineyards, and some of South Africa’s best wildlife parks. With the perfect blend of adventure, relaxation, foodie experiences, and animal encounters, you’ll be planning next year’s trip before you’ve even got home.

Itinerary
Day 1: Caves & Ostriches
Touch down in Cape Town before heading into the Karoo Desert via the famous Route 62. Stop at the Cango Caves to marvel at the surreal limestone formations and cave paintings. Enjoy the rest of your evening in Oudshoorn, where there is an option to take a bike ride to the Swatberg Mountains. Finish off your day with an optional traditional braai!
Day 2: Addo Elephant Park
Travel to the amazing Addo Elephant National Park. After lunch at the camp, set out on your first game drive, in search of Africa's most iconic animal, as well as lions, buffalo and antelope. Spend the night in the coastal city of Gqeberha.
Day 3: Penguins & Safari
Meet the adorable residents of a penguin rehabilitation centre this morning. Then you'll have the chance to see the 'Big 5' and lots more wonderful wildlife with optional morning and afternoon game drives on a private reserve. Finish the day back in Gqeberha with drinks and dinner.
Day 4: Beaches & Hikes
We're headed to the coastal town of Knysna today for shimmering lagoons, sandy beaches, and the freshest seafood of your life. Stop en route at Jeffreys Bay, one of the best surf spots in the world, and Tsitsikamma National Park where we'll take a hike to the breath-taking Storms River Bridge.
Day 5: Plettenberg Bay
Enjoy breakfast overlooking Knysna Lagoon, before heading to one of South Africa's best beaches, dreamy Plettenberg Bay. Kick back on the golden sands, and take an optional marine safari, before travelling back to Knysna where you can learn about Xhosa culture on an optional township tour.
Day 6: Shark Conservancy
Grab a window seat for the jaw-dropping journey along the Garden Route back to Cape Town. Stop at Hermanus to visit a shark conservation project and learn about this amazing but misunderstood sea creature. Tonight, hit the capital's V&A Waterfront for drinks with a view.
Day 7: Wine Country
Enjoy some free time in Stellenbosch today, exploring the colonial streets, rolling vineyards, and lively markets. Join our optional wine tour for a flavour of the region's many wines, beers, and gins, as well as a traditional braai. Then head back to Cape Town before saying your goodbyes.

Extra information
Arrive in Cape Town International Airport (CPT), we’ll hit the road straight away on day 1 (around 7am), so you will want to arrive the day before the trip and book an additional night of accommodation. Our travel advisors can help with this. Airport transfers are not included on this trip, but it only takes around 20 minutes to get to the city centre by taxi.
The trip ends on day 7 back in Cape Town at around 4pm. You’ll need to arrange your own return airport transfer as well, but your tour guide can help you. Please ensure you leave plenty of time to make your flight or fly out the following day.
